Important 2008-2009 Information
Students on the roster for 2008-2009 should be receiving a summer update letter in the mail by the middle of August. This includes information about SUMMER BAND CAMP, a RMS Band Parent meeting, and calendar information for the upcoming school year.
We have some exciting and ambitious goals for the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Porter and Mrs. Belch are committed to seeing EVERYTHING SINGLE BAND STUDENT pass EVERY SINGLE SIX WEEKS! We will be intiating a homework center required for all students that are failing at two weeks progress checks. We are providing a comforable, quiet space to work, textbooks, supplies, and even a student accessible computer and printer.
On the performance front, we are going to make a recording to enter the Texas Music Educators Association State Honor Band Contest. This is the state championship for bands in Texas, a process where our recording is judged against other bands across the state in our classification, 2C. Class 2C are middle schools with total enrollments between 400 and 1,000, with class 3C being larger schools and 1C being smaller. We will have five performance opportunities in the Spring to make our recording. The music that we will pick for the competition will be our most challenging, providing an opportunity for our students to be challenged and grow.
